How much spending money should i take to the dominican republic?

Hi i am going to the dominican in January 2010, we are staying at an all inclusive hotel for 7days but I know nothing about their currency rate compared to the GBP! Does anyone know a rough estimate as to how much drinks/food cost once we are out of the hotel?
Thanks!

If you will go out from resort, try to rent a car (50-70$ a day), the hotel taxi will charge you crazy prices (from 80 to 250$ per trip).
This is the only way, you probably will leave the resort, with the bus wil be more complicated for you but if you want little bit adventure, try to find Caribe Tours bus station close to your resort (is cheap and comfortable).

In normal restaurant in center of city (Zona Colonial) the prices are around 10$ per meal. Don't try Hard Rock cafe, they almost double the prices for normal burger you will pay around 20$ (for some reason, Dominicans love this "fast food" :)))

Bars, discotheques normally don't have entrance and if so, it is maximum around 15$.

But definitely compared to UK, the prices are really better in here.

If you stay all inclusive you don't need much. You may need to pay taxi and you must pay tourist visa on arrival. What do you want to spend? That is the real question.
