What is there to see in Guatamala?

What are the main attractions? I will be there for about two weeks but need to get from La Mesilla to either Corintos or El Florido so I can cross the border to Honduras.

Guatemala is AMAAAAZING! It's one of my favourite countries - but oh my... are the bus trips there scary!

But as to what to see, and the border crossing to Honduras....

Depending on what you're gonna do in Honduras, there are two more important crossings - if you're headed to do some diving in the Bay Islands, going frok Lívingston in Guatemala to Honduras is the deal, otherwise via Copan Ruinas.

Two weeks isn't all that much time to spend in Guatemala, but it should gover some of those stunning places:

- Antigua (Do the Pacaya volcano hike and visit a coffee farm!)
- Chichicastenango market is great!
- San Pedro OR Panajachel by Atitlán Lake
- Flores to see the amazing Tikal and other surrounding Mayan ruins
- Livingston (funky Caribbean life with Garifuna people - try their most famous dish- Tapado! MMmmmm)

Just safe yourself the time and trouble and stay out of Guatemala City. It's not worth it.

I have done that trip, many times, in the opposite direction.
Hope you are not traveling by yourself.
The buses are not that scary. Given the time you have, I would recommend this route. Get to Huehuetenango and spend a day or so there. The Mayan ruin of Zaculeu are not far from there. If you want to have a beautiful adventure, take a trip to Todo Santos.
Next is Quetzaltenango. This is the second largest city in Guatemala, old fashioned and quaint. The bus from Quetzaltenango to Guat city is like a grayhound, safe, confortable and fast.
I also do not recommend the city. Get your self to Antigua. Good place for home base, lots to do right around there. Good jumping place to Panajachel, Santiago Atitlan, Chichicastenango, the volcanos and the ocean ( I don't think much of the pacific in Guatemala).
In your way out to Honduras you may want to see if you can make it to Livingstone, tough trip. Making it to Tikal or Flores would be time consuming and/or expensive.

You can also stop at Esquipulas on the way to el Florido. A very interesting town and church there. Most people miss this all together.

    Safe traveling, God bless you.
