Have you been to Utila, Honduras?

If so, I have a few questions!

What is the main language there? I have read that it is mainly English but also been told that it is dual English - Spanish. I would like to know for sure.

Is there any surfing in Utila?

What are the main attractions in Utila?

Thanks!

Yes, I have. I live on Roatan, one of Utila's sister islands. Although there are a lot of Spanish speaking only newcomers there, the Islanders are all bilingual, English and Spanish. The relatively protected Bay of Honduras doesn't get the big rolling waves that the Pacific coast is famous for so there isn't much surfing, but Utila is a scuba diver and party mecca.
Utila Town, or East Harbor, as the main section of the island is called, is the most populated area and doesn't have much in the way of beaches, but other parts of the island and especially the cays, smaller islands nearby, have some beautiful and fairly private beaches, and there is lots of unspoiled shoreline and jungle to hike, explore, or even camp.
Scuba diving, snorkeling, and partying are the main attractions there. The diving is inexpensive and there is always the chance to encounter a giant whale shark. If you are into diving, snorkeling, informal nightlife or just a quiet, laid back, hammock napping vacation, Utila is a good place to be.

Yes I have been to Utila - the diving there is brilliant and super cheap, and I just looooooved the rhythm of life there - Get up, dive, get lunch, dive, go with your fellow divers to a BBQ, get drunk, go to bed, and repeat the same routine the next day! Woohoo! Awesome. Gosh, I miss those days!

Anyhow, the beaches of Utila are pretty poor and I never saw any surfers, but I am sure if one looks hard enough, it's possible to find but it might be something you'd need to arrange independently.

It's true about the language, they do speak (most of them) English as well, though I always spoke Spanish - it's hard to break a habit.
