Are hotel booking websites for Prague reliable?

Question

I'm planning a journey to Prague in the first week of November, and I've found several hotel booking websites which seem to be offering incredible deals for hotel rooms - such as a 4-star double hotel room for only 31 Euros a night!

This seems too good to be true, even for the cheap season, has anyone used these websites for booking before and are they reliable?

Prague hotels are faced with a large fall of foreign tourists and experiencing a decline of business and leisure tourism, first of all, because of the financial crisis, but also because Prague has an uncredible number of beds, 120 thousand beds, which is even more rooms than Vienna, experts are even expecting the bankruptcy of several hotels. I've since seen some unfavourable reviews of the hotel in question and have decided to go with my second choice - and found that it's slightly cheaper to book directly through that hotel's website.

I am guessing that you are from the US. In Europe a 4 star hotel is a 2 Star hotel in the states, so pay no mind to the stars unless it is a 5 star hotel or a 4 Star hotel with a US name to it. I have stayed at a lot of so called 4 star hotels in Europe and the former eastern block countries.

I've used this website for Prague: www.hostelworld.com - don't let the name fool you, it deals with all kinds of accommodation - and found nice clean budget accommodation for both visits. Check there and compare.
