Additional Details

I am going to Liverpool next month with my partner next month and have so far spent £100 on a hotel for 2 nights and travel so we are on a tight budget but want to see the city for as little as possible. So all suggestions welcome as long as they are sensible with in reason. I would also like good places to eat on a budget too.

You'll be spoilt for choice!
Liverpool has loads of things to see and lots to do.
Budget eating is no problem all over the city.
A couple of the city centre pubs open up for cheap breakfast deals. The Crown is good and has a fabulous plasterwork ceiling to look at. Class job, and a very good brekkie, close to Lime Street Station.
There's a big Chinese on the corner not far away with an 'all you can eat' deal and dozens of dishes to choose from. Stuff yourself stupid and waddle round town all afternoon, haha.
Dozens and dozens of cafes and restaurants, pub meals at good prices, and a greasy spoon right beside Lime Street Station on the little road out the side of the station, called the New Hill Cafe, where the taxi drivers hang out. Handy, cos it's 24hr, so OK to dive in out of the rain at times. OK for a cheap coffee and egg on toast, bacon buttie, etc, if your desperate. I use it when I get off the National Express from Birmingham at 6am from family visits. Tides me over till I get brekkie in the Crown later.
Also, check the supermarket 'cheap' shelves for pre-packed snacks...pastas, rolls, ham, etc.
There's a big Tesco right in the middle of the shopping area..and a massive TV on the street right outside for free watching while you sit on the benches and eat.
I've often bought cooked pasta snacks for 20p, loaves for 30p. It all helps. Perfectly safe for same-day eating.

World Museum, not a stuffy old museum, great exhibits, aquarium, pleasant atmosphere, easy-going, good eating place.
all day job to see everything and all for free.

See Chinatown and the biggest Chinese Arch outside China!

Albert Docks, very nice too. Have a good time around there. Costs nothing to walk around and you'll have a very pleasant time. Lots to see and a long covered walkway to stay out of the rain. Tate modern is there too

Maritime museum.....and there's a new one getting built.
The Titanic sailed from Liverpool on it's tragic journey.

Go to the Pier Head for the Mersey Ferry.....have a trip and see the Liverpool Waterfront from the water.

Cheap day ticket...Saveaway ticket...for an easy trip on the train to The Wirral for the great views over the enormous sands at high tide and bigger enormouser (!) sands at low tide...(how big is 'massive' exactly?)...fabulous sunsets on the right day from Red Rock, West Kirby, and Hoylake. Have a walk on the water..there's a sea wall enclosing a huge marine lake for safe sailing and you can walk right round it. From the shore it looks like people are walking on water at times. It's at West Kirby, a couple of minutes walk from the train station. Click on Satellite view to see it.

Same ticket, same day if you want...go up to Southport, really pleasant shopping street, archways, huge lovely gardens and a lake, and glorious beach. Early passenger planes used to land on it...it was a great landing strip, long and firm.
Southport has very good events...air show, fireworks, lots of goodies, some lovely architecture, big spaces, and a rail station right in the shops, under cover. M&S is nearly next door.
The train goes past a squirrel santuary you can visit and the Royal Birkdale golf course, where The Open was held this year. With a Saveaway ticket, just get off where you want, get another train later.

Drinks are cheaper than in most UK cities. A Saturday night in Concert Square or ten minutes away in Mathew Street is fun for all. Even non-revellers. Just be there, you'll see what the big fuss is...great nights every week. Those are the top hot-spots, but Albert Docks is good for nightlife too, just more expensive.
Almost any night, Liverpool is alive and busy. Just street-watching is entertainment in itself.
Liverpool is fun.

How do? For the record, Liverpool ain't a good place to go "on a tight budget", hon, 'cos, as with London, (where I come from), things tend to get a bit on the bloody pricey side up in Liverpool, believe me! It might be an idea to save up a bit before ya go, if ya get the chance! And by the way, if ya want somewhere CHEAP to eat out, go to Yums- (the all-ya-can-eat Chinese buffet restaurant down Bold Street)- it's lush, and well worth it! It's also dirt-cheap- especially if, like ya said yerself, yer on a tight budget! And for the record, the all-ya-can-eat Chinese buffet place our Roddysul's talkin' about, (opposite Limey), is The May Sum- again, yes, well worth it, and dirt-bloody-cheap- I've been in there meself, and I'd recommend it to anyone! :)

I've been a regular to Liverpool for nigh-on eight years now, (give or take!) Peace and love! Be lucky! :)

Jonal answered most of what I wanted to say in his excellent reply. The Museums and Art Galleries are free and make sure you get the ferry to view the fantastic waterfront of Liverpool. It's unlike any other in the UK
