Would like to holiday in Rhodes, can you advise where and with who to book?

My family and I don't have a lot of money, so we save up, as a result, our holidays are few and far between. That being said, as long as it's clean, basic is good - so I don't mind where I stay.

However, now, we are travelling with 5 adults, 2 kids, one of whom will be in a pram.

The kids will go where they are put, but the adults? One couple want to be near culture, and enjoy nights out. The eldest doesn't like loud noise from say, being on a main road, or next door to the pubs. She also doesn't like high rise hotels/apartment blocks.

As for us, the parents, our requests are this: Near to a beach, so we can take the kids for a splash after their day out, and not up on a hill so we have to carry buggies etc up and down every time we go in or out! Non of us want to be in the middle of nowhere, we'd like a few shops, restaurants and bars to be able to get to easily.

So, has anyone been to Rhodes with family, and where is the best (and most reasonable) place to stay? Who did you book with?

Additional Details

Hi big cheese, I know falaraki is a drunken haunt, so we'll visit it by day when the drink vampires will be asleep!

However, I've been to Crete, Corfu and was booked to go to Rhodes years back, before it was cancelled. I enjoy sight seeing and would stick to the quieter resorts. However, thanks for the advice.

I used to live over there. Stay clear of Faliraki like the plague.
I would recommend Crete or perhaps even Kos instead of Rhodes. Too many British drunkards there for my liking.

Thanks for the advice both of you. I don't know who marked you both down, I marked you both up!

I think lindos in rhodes would be a good family resort, they have cheap basic hotels there,i have been thinking about going myself, the resort is quiet with lots of sightseeing.Falaraki has a fun fair,i would only recommend going there during the day with kids.Look up deals on websites such as first choice or thompson.
