The cheapest places in Kuala Lumpur are in Chinatown. This is also where the main central bus stations are. (i think the names are Kota Raya and/or Puta Raya). If you're arriving to KL by train (likely if you're flying), you'll more than likely find yourself at KL Sentral, the main central station. From there, you can get on the KL Monorail and get off at the first stop (heading in the direction of the twin towers). The stop's name is Pasar Seni. This is Chinatown. From there, you're only a few minutes walk to quite a few backpacker type places. The cheapest you'll find is 20 ringitt (not so nice!). Most lie in the 25 to 50 ringitt range (35 ringitt is about 10 US dollars). You shouldn't have too much trouble finding a place...ask people.....i can't remember the name of a guesthouse......hope this helps a bit.

Please log in to source below for budget hotels under Kuala Lumpur heading. Many backpackers head for budget hotels and it's best to book before hand as they are always full especially around the shopping area.
You may try you luck at Petaling street for basic facilities.

the cheapest hotel is malaysia is above the chinese restaurant, it is lesser than RM50 per room a night, most of the time you can't find them of website, just ask the taxi driver to bring you to look for it around petaling street area

remember the key word "cheap room above the chinese coffee shop"

There are many cheap hotels in KL where you don't have to pre-book in October. On arrival at KL, just hire a taxi to drive you the cheapest hotel, you wish to stay for a nite or two.

Hotels are cheap in Kl, I have stayed in Hilton etc there and very cheap rates, no point in staying in some doss house when top names are cheap there.
