Hotel Calypso closed around 2006 for refurbishment and when re opened called it Med Playa - Calypso Hotel, I was in it about 10 years ago and it was very nice, in a nice area about 5 minutes walk to the main pubs and about 10 minutes walk to the beach. I was last in Salou last September and found a lot of changes, it is full of asian & african and Moroccan workers, very few spaniards, when you are walking towards the beach area in the evening there is crowds of africans standing at each lamp post, I never saw any violence but they look unsightly and they are always asking you to buy their products, watches, sunglasses, perfume etc, all fakes, and they will even ask if you want to buy happy pills (Ecstasy). Avoid the area late at night at the Los Angela's Hotels where there is a row of noisy pubs that are open till 4am there was 3 people attacked there when I was there. Rovers Return Pub has good family entertainment. Further along on the bus La Pineda is a nice place.
