The reason I suspect has to do with the theme of projection when it comes to the Ascendant. Since the Asc is how we want to be viewed by others on a subconscious level, the Descendant of DC is also basically the type of personality that we feel helplessly drawn to on some level, in order to balance the lopsided traits portrayed by our Ascendant. Since Venus is all about balance and fair play, this is one beneficial planet to be placed in the partner's chart because it teaches one the lessons of compromise, the give and take, in a partnership.

Venus conjunct Asc would result in a rather strong, instant attraction but this is based more on our own projection onto the other person. Because the vibes emitted by the other resembles so much our own personality, this seems more to be of a narcissistic type of attraction, whereby the other is used to fulfill our sense of desire, just because the other resembles so much of who we are personality wise.
