Where is the engine number located on an alfa romeo 156 engine?

My mechanic is looking for the engine number on my 2001 alfa romeo 156 1.8 T.Spark Veloce. Strangely he doesn't know where to look despite being an Alfa specialist! Does anyone know where this number would be found?

After checking my data, the number should be between the exhaust manifold and the gearbox bell housing.Stamped into the engine block.

on engine and why are you stil there specialist dont mean hes good at it

with those cars they put it on the rear cylinder cap but if its been used alot it rubbed off so ur S.O.L
