Travelling to India next week, advice needed!?

Im going to Delhi with two friends and their 3 year old daughter. We are starting off in Delhi then going Vrindavan and Haridwar. We have booked our first hotel in delhi but nothing after that, because one of my friends thinks itll be fine to just organise when we get there....Ive always thought we need to book trains etc before we go? Who is correct?
Thanks

Should not really be a problem.
Train may be full, but if you are taking a luxury bus or private taxi, then it is available in day's notice or same day.

get to your hotel & ask the reception to help you with phone numbers etc....or just go to the train station & find out train times. they are quite modern there.

take immodium tummy tablets with you as a precaution ...you probably will need them & mosquito repellent spray for evenings. you'll love it...India is wonderful!

    your friend is correct.
it's good to book a room for when you plane lands, but otherwise, you can do everything there.
most train stations have a tourist desk or office that is very helpful. look for it. in delhi, it's on the 1st (up from ground) floor. go up the stairs and buy your train tickets there.
and in vrnidavan and hardiwar, you can get rooms when you arrive. you'll have lots of people trying to take you to their hotels. avoid them, choose a place from your guidebook, and insist on going there. if they don't have room, they can send you somewhere else. it's easier and better to do it that way.

vrnidavin is a holy town, being the birthplace of krishna. show it due respect: cover your upper arms and legs, don't kiss or hold hands in public, that kind of thing. they are super friendly and laid back there.
hardiwar too, actually. those are nice, mellow towns to visit.
    have fun!

I've travelled the entire world without making any bookings in advance. You'll be just fine.

You are making a mistake if you are travelling without firm bookings in place.

be aware at vrindavan - some people insist money on god's name don't go their hypnotism technic (donate in name of your parents, your mother, father etc.,)

If it's your first visit to mainland India be prepared for a shock, the dirt, squalor and poverty is everywhere. People defacating in the streets, urinating on the buses and trains, and beggers and cripples all over the place. India is a land of many apalling extremes but still worth a visit but stay with your guide at all times....

i agree with the majority, it is good to book there, sometimes more direct and they can give you more personal advice. it reduces some of the hassle.

but please be aware, india runs on india time. often the trains are late, though i've been on fast ones before. India is best enjoyed with open expectations and good humor.

    have fun!

oh, one more thing- it is good to have a couple of coins on hand to give to beggars, but not good to have to open your wallet for them. don't carry your daily money with the rest of your money. it is best to keep it in a seperate wallet, just-in-case ;)
