As a hetero would you marry someone of the same gender?

if you answer no and you think same-sex couples should marry someone of the opposite gender then why? why cause hurt and misery? why be so bigoted and evil?
if you don't wanna marry someone of the wrong gender why should others?

I would not. There's no reason for me to. The argument that homosexuals have the same right that heterosexuals have to marry someone of the opposite sex is patently stupid and disingenuous. Let me explain.

The ONLY reasons that anyone would marry someone that they are not attracted to are for children or for financial benefits. Since homosexuals are not likely to already have children with someone of the opposite sex, the reason they would marry someone of the opposite sex would be for financial benefits. We tend to think that people who marry for financial reasons are shallow, gold diggers, and any other derogatory name you can think of.

People who make the argument that gays can marry people of the opposite sex are putting homosexuals in an impossible position: "We won't let you marry the person you are attracted to, but you *can* get married. Just if you do get married, the marriage is a lie, and you are a shallow person with loose morals because you got married for the money."

I was not surprised the bigots didn't answer - even when they reply they don't answer though

    That's how I feel.

I usually ask the bigots "What if you woke up in the world and the majority of the population was gay? And they didn't want to see you with the person that made you feel complete because their old book said it was "wrong"?" Usually they just denydenydeny until I get fed up.

You leave a few things that are very important out of this horrible analogy. It's a matter of wants, not forces. It's also a difference of heterosexual and homosexual. What causes hurt and misery is refusing to allow people to marry who they love and are attracted to. The source of that is where the bigotry lies. What is the "wrong" gender in matters of the heart and the right of the people to pursue happiness and have the same secular, lawful privileges of other couples?

Something is screwy with the way you look at things.

I don't quite see the point of getting married in the first place. Unless you're looking for some sort of tax break, or insurance reasons. Just my opinion.

I never understood that argument either! It's really funny when you think about it.

Maybe gay people should take all the language out of their anti-discrimination laws that specify "real or perceived" sexual orientation.

I would marry a trusted friend. Then, I'd have lovers, and could dismiss them at any time telling them: I'm married. To a guy.

    Source(s):

Joking, although I could do it since gay marriage is legal in my country.

No; I'm not interested in marrying a woman. However, I don't care who someone else marries; it's none of my business. They can marry three girls, two guys, and a billy goat for all I care; as long as everybody concerned is a consenting adult, it's none of my business.

As to Reverend Soleil, "gender" is a perfectly good word (at least in the English language) to refer to people; we're not talking language cases here, where "sex" WOULD be incorrect.

everyone should be allowed to marry the person or persons they love, and I still fail to see how this is something the government has gotten involved with. Last I checked marriage was not a political event.

I don't care, if you're not hurting anyone then fine, but as I was brought up by homophobic parents (great day telling them I was bi) I'm still squeamish about man on man so keep the details to yourselves.

I'd go to a gay wedding if I was invited, two people in love is no problem for me.

I personally wouldn't want to marry someone of the same sex as me, but I have no problem with homosexual marriage. If one of my mates turned round and said they were gay, it wouldn't bother me as long as they didn't try anything with me - not because I'm against it, but because I'm straight and don't want to 'experiment'. I also don't like seeing PDAs between heterosexual or homosexual couples, because it's a bit slushy and squirmy

Same sex marriage has been around for a lot longer than you think because, really, marriage is just another word for partnership and the genders of people in a legal partnership are usually irrelevant factors. Also, a legal partnership can involve a lot more people than just two. If you wanted to, and could get the consents, you could have a marriage between 100 people or more. You'd call it a company or something of the sort, but that's what all marriages are. Little partnership companies establishing joint liability and responsibility for the activities of the individuals involved. The sexual orientations of the individuals involved doesn't really merit any consideration by those not involved in a sexual relationship with the individuals concerned.

I think that's why they call them hetero.

That would be like one of us gay guys marrying a female. Ewwww!

Everyone is different, to a certain extent, and that's what makes this world so GREAT! NOTHING is normal ... there are always exceptions to the rule.

What bothers me is when str8 people expect gay people NOT to get married.

    Since marriage is S O S A C R E D why not ban divorce?

If no one wants to ban divorce, how about making gay marriages legal? Oh wait, they are in several states. It's just a matter of time before it becomes a national event.

Can you imagine a world where people can be themselves and no one interferes with their originality?

I can. And I'm praying that it gets here SOON!

    Peace

I would love a 'wife' but I am not gay. I envy men who have stay at home wives to have a lovely dinner ready for them, fire lighting on a winter evening, shopping done, bed made, etc.etc.etc. I mean WHO wouldn't want that !! It's a husband's life so yes I would love to marry someone of my gender, but it would not be consumated and emotionally I couldn't cope with another woman, just like the 'wife' part
