Where is a relaxing place to holiday near Nottingham?

Question

I'm planning a birthday treat for my wife - a weekend by herself with no kids! Things that would be good are a hotel with nice rooms (not a tiny B&B though), walking distance to shopping, access to a massage or something like that, and close to restaurants. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Anywhere within an hours drive of the city would be okay.

They have a hotel & spa at Thoresby Hall, near Nottingham. I haven't been there myself, but heard it can be good..... no children are allowed, so that may help keep everything relaxed!

(no shops in walking distance though).

Try Clumber Park Spa - it's a little bit remote but there is a spa and it is set in nice grounds.
