I still think you are asking a lot of yourself and your family. It is difficult to explain to you just how debilitating the heat is if you have not experienced it before. I would suggest you stay in Luxor for the majority of your trip and possibly add a day trip to Cairo. If you go to Cairo you will have to either fly, (it takes an hour) or take the overnight train a lot cheaper but still an exhausting trip. I would recommend flying, very early in the morning. Then take a taxi to Giza to see the pyramids it will still be early so hopefully a little cooler, a taxi will take about an hour and the last time I went cost around 100 EP but the price is negotiable and maybe you can get it cheaper. See the pyramids, and then go to the museum which should not be missed. If you get there about lunch time it will be quieter. The museum is not air conditioned, but is a must as it’s where Tutankhamen's grave goods are including the famous death mask. Finally go to the Khan el Khalili in the evening to see the medieval shopping quarter then back to the airport to take a late night flight back to Luxor or the night train. Taxis in between all take around an hour from one destination to another depending on the traffic.
There is so much to see in Luxor itself you could go out every day and see something. Buy a good guide book to make sure you see the best things. Tickets nowadays are getting expensive, the kings valley I think was 60Ep king tut is 100EP and Ramses 6 tomb ( I think its 6) one of the better tombs is 50EP Ad it all up and it comes to over £20 a head. Add a taxi that will cost you another 100EP up for the morning depending on where you want to go.
I would not recommend Aswan on this occasion, the temperature will be higher and you will either need to fly or take a taxi there a 3 or 4 hour journey in uncomfortable conditions. Leave Aswan for another trip.
Many of my family have been on a Luxor balloon trip and loved it, I have previously quoted the price but like all things in Egypt it is negotiable especially if there are several of you. But check your ins, most travel ins does not cover ballooning although i know one of the balloon companies has its own ins, but I think only one.
I think that answers most of your questions once again. Gosh I bet you’re grateful!
