When it comes to a big purchase like a new TV, I'm the type of person who likes to do lots of research to try and find the best product for the price.
After deciding the size (40-42") and style (LCD), it came time to figure out which brand and model would wind up in my home. After reading countless write-ups and reviews (Amazon, Consumer Reports, Crutchfield) and going into stores to see actual TVs (An essential step if you ask me), I narrowed it down to the Samsung LN40A550 and the Sharp Aquos 42". I ultimately went with the Samsung because the Sharp model was being discontinued. Also I figured at that point either one would do the job.
The purchase qualified for Amazon's White Glove Delivery - which was awesome. I ordered on a Tuesday and it was delivered on Saturday. The guys brought it up three flights of stairs (the joys of NYC living), unboxed it and set it up on its stand.
Right from the get-go this TV was incredible. The picture is drop-dead gorgeous while watching HD Cable channels (Sunrise Earth anyone?) and even the image from my standard DVD player was very good. Sound is a little above average, but I hook it up through my stereo anyway.
I am totally satisfied with my Samsung LN40A550 and highly recommend it to anyone looking. Save yourself the trouble of researching and go for this one. If you do research though, I found the information on Consumer Reports to be invaluable, even if you do have to pay about $5 to access it.
For the price with free delivery, which has *ahem* come down since I purchased in January, you can't beat it!
