Hotels in Havana, Cuba?

I'm travelling to Cuba in March, flying into Havana and planning on staying there for a while, but to be able to move around. I don't want a hotel for my whole holiday, just the first 3 or so nights to get my feet on the ground.

Can you recommend a hotel that is fairly cheap in Havana?

Thanks

I am staying at the Montehabana from 10 march but it is a bit out of Habana Vieja area (old Havana ) I usually rent a scooter for the time I am there so the placement does not matter. Although the Necropolis and many other cool things are out of Habana Vieja.

If you want cheap and central try Hotel Deauville (was being renovated last time I looked so better check) Hotel Floridita is also central also the Hotel Saratoga is central and pretty reasonable.

If you don't mind a bit out of downtown and want cheaper (which usually means less stars) you can try Hotel Kohly Bosque (actually 2 hotels in same complex ) or montehabana.

If I were you I would look at Google earth find the area you want then look on tripadvisor for user reviews of hotels in that area takes all the guess work out of what you are trying to do.

Casa Particulars are also cheap (like a B&B live with homeowner good site here)

I've been to Cuba in December and booked the hotel (Park Central; that is one of the 5* ones and if you want it easy go for it) in advance. It costed me £40 per night, on arrival about 5 times more. Breakfast included - plenty of variety of food. If you're patient enough just go there and get casa particulares. I didn't use one in Havana, but any other place in Cuba ( Santiago, Camaguey, Trinidad) it was ok (clean, soap and towel, en suit, fridge, air condition-fan sometimes) and about 15-25 CUC per night/2 people. We had a guide book published by Moon and it' very accurate- about everything in Cuba. Good luck.

I am so jealous. I have not been to Cuba in years. You will love it. As far as finding a cheap hotel, I would recommend checking out the website BookMe. You can compare ALL the reputable travel sites from one location, and save tons of money. Good luck and check out the link below.

Sorry, not really familiar with the cheaper hotels. (Prefer casas particulares - but realise they may not be good for the first nights).

Look at www.cuba-junky.com or ask on http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/fo… - they may help you.

PS the Saratoga is trying to be the most expensive hotel in Havana, so I doubt it meets your "fairly cheap" - but the views from the roof are great.

Like Beardo says, see the Cuba-Junky website, in specific this page: http://www.cuba-junky.com/havana/havana-…

    Good luck
