Why did the Art capitol move from paris?

The short answer is that the money in post-war Europe had dried up, and New York had become the most vibrant city in the World. Also, the ideologies that fuelled much of pre-war art, notably socialism, communism and anarchism had lost much of their attraction for many people, and the New York art scene, with its jazz music, its multi-culturalism and its excitement seemed to be the way for ward for art, so many artists - moved there.
