Eastern Europe holidays?

Question

I would like to visit eastern Europe for a 1-2 week holiday in May.I will be flying to my chosen destination from England.The problem i have is that information on possible places to go is not abundant on the internet,and very few people i know have been in the last 15 years.I have looked at Montenegro,it looks beautiful,and also Macedonia.

Things i am looking for in a holiday-

A nice hotel/apartment to stay in(average priced)

Places of natural beauty/wildlife

Interesting historical places of interest

A nice town to have lunch and dinner in.A bit of nightlife would be nice,but nothing wild.

Somewhere not swamped with tourists,would be quite happy never to see another British person all holiday!!

Bosnia and Hercegovina. Considering its painful past, beautiful people, countryside, restraunts, and sightseeing that is amazing. Be careful not to stray off of paved roads because the country is still littered with land mines.

i suggest skopje, bitola and ohrid, all three, since you have at least one week. enough to go to all three places, all offer different sights and tastes. :)

Bosnia sadly is not full of tourists but it does get some

Look for something in Dubrovnik: beautiful, the weather should be starting to warm up well in May and it's really cheap.

Croatia is nice.... but in recent years is very popular with tourists, and as a result, prices in the main resorts and cities have risen to match this.

If you want to see something different - beautiful and 'far from the madding crowd' then your first thoughts were on the right track. Montenegro is really beautiful. I have not visited Macedonia personally so cannot say either way, but also consider Bosnia as well.

There are many really beautiful places in Bosnia such as Sarajevo and Mostar which receive a fair bit of tourism already, and it is very cheap (I have just come back from holiday there!)
