How best can I spend my two days in LA?

I'm visiting LA in a few weeks, and we'll be staying for 3 nights so will only have 2 whole days in the city. How can we spend the 2 days so as to see all the best attractions? We don't want to waste any time while we're there deciding where to go/what to do. We're staying in a hotel downtown. How long does it take to travel from here to Hollywood/Beverly Hills?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

hey i live in Compton a city right next to L.A. well what you really want to Visit is the Hollywood and Vine stores they are so unique and crazy, you may also want to go 2 the main Hollywood where the stars are at, and from Downtown L.A. to Hollywood its like about 15 minutes if you go on Car but if you take the Bus it will be about 25 minutes, or you can even look for the Metrolink Station at Broadway Ave. in Downtown L.A. and you just pay $5 and it will take you straight to Hollywood, its really easy.
You may also want to Visit the measums at Figueroa St. in Downtown, or another cool place to go is like watch a Lakers game at the Staple Center, you may also want to go to East L.A. and see all the great Art that Hispanics have done over the years. Or you may even want to go 2 Universal Studios and you can see the actual sets of the movies they make, take tours, ride rides, or even buy things. You can also Visit the Beach like Santa Monica, or if your e Long Beach you can Visit the Haunted Ship called the Queen Mary its really cool, or shop at Beverly Hills but trust me its expensive, well Good Luck and have Fun !

There are literally hundreds of things to do here in LA. Here is my list of “must sees”. Visit as many as you have time for.:

Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Half a billion visitors can’t be wrong. #1 Destination in SoCal.
Universal Studios: A theme park that grew out of a studio tour. #2 Destination
Even if you don’t visit Disneyland or Universal Studios Tour, Downtown Disney District and Universal City Walk are very fun places to visit for shopping and eating. And they’re free to visit.

Hollywood: Enjoy the Walk of Fame, Entertainment Museum, Chinese Theater and more. You can see a lot for free. The Hollywood & Highland complex is AMAZING. It has lots of shops and restaurants, and the Kodak Theater (home of the Academy Awards). I also like the El Capitan theater, right across the street. And the Hollywood Bowl is a GREAT place to listen to concerts outdoors.

Rodeo Drive, 90210: Packed with exclusive shops, full of gawkers. They all came to enjoy the excess. Free, unless you intend to buy something.

Venice Beach: Los Angeles kitsch and over-the-top culture at its best. Here you'll find Muscle Beach, street performers and tacky shops galore. Fun, VERY interesting, but I avoid it after dark, when it gets a little TOO interesting for my taste.

Santa Monica Beach and Pier: Great beach scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that has been in a lot of TV and movies.

Santa Monica Third Street Promenade - Downtown Santa Monica's shopping promenade is often the scene of movie star-sightings.

Sunset Boulevard: Perhaps one of the world's most famous streets, it began as a route between the stars' posh neighborhoods and the Hollywood studios. It runs from downtown to the ocean, passing through the "Sunset Strip" on its way. It makes for a fun drive. When you get to the ocean, stop at Gladstone's for Fish.

Queen Mary: Once the largest ship afloat, she's been docked in Long Beach for longer than she sailed, and her elegance never fails to impress. Free to visit. You can actually stay on board, for a price.

Farmers Market and The Grove - A new shopping complex right next to a Los Angeles landmark, The Grove and Farmers Market coexist. Enjoy a movie or shopping, and then take the trolley to the Farmers Market for lunch or dinner. It is right next to CBS, so walk across the lot to see if they are taping "The Price is Right". You might even get in.

TAAB: The Americana at Brand- The newly opened TAAB, developed by the same group that gave us The Grove, breathes new life into Glendale, and gives all those hip people in Eagle Rock and the eastern half of LA a great place to go.

Griffith Park - Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, and Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage.

Getty Museum - The Getty's architecture is so beautiful that it keeps me fascinated. No matter whether you like their art or architecture better (or maybe you'll just enjoy the view), the Getty is sure to please. Free.

Attend a TV taping - You can get free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, tvtix.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It's very interesting to see a show being taped. The most popular, by far, is the Tonight show with Jay Leno. Check the NBC web site for all the details there.

    Places to eat:
In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.
Pink’s Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. You might even see a celebrity. Maybe.
Tommy’s Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. The original location is at Beverly & Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.
Canter’s Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly & Melrose. Near CBS, you might spot a celebrity.
Phillippe’s: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station and Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, it’s hot.
The Pantry: Corner of Figueroa and 9th, downtown. Huge portions, they never close, GREAT steak and eggs.

    Places to Stay:
Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim.
In Hollywood, I recommend the Renaissance Hotel at Hollywood and Highland, the Best Western Sunset Plaza, or the Holiday Inn Walk of Fame.
In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced.
In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn.

    Places to Shop:
    Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica
    The Grove, Los Angeles
    Americana @ Brand, Glendale
    Beverly Center, Los Angeles
    Citadel Outlets, Commerce
    Brea Mall, Brea
    The Block at Orange, Orange
    South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa
    Fashion Island, Newport Beach
    Santee Alley, Los Angeles

Downtown to Hollywood takes about 15 minutes by subway. It's about 6 miles. Downtown to Beverly Hills takes 20-3- minutes by car, since there is no subway service there.

    visit:
    santa monica pier
    venice beach
    griffith observatory
    hollywood blvd
knott's berry farm (its in orange county, but worth the drive/bus)

    avoid:
    anything north of hollywood
the only thing in long beach worth seeing is the queen mary and the aquarium. the rest of it aint worth it. especially considering you only have two days to visit.

oh yeah. and DEFINITELY go eat at in-n-out!

    have fun!

Gonna have to start early but this is how i would spend 2 days

HOLLYWOOD BLVD (graumans chinese theatre and walk of fame. You have to do the tour of the stars homes-A MUST- for me anyway. Takes you around beverley hills/bel air/ hollywood hills and more)

SUNSET BLVD (The famous sunset strip-spot some stars and drop into one of the many starbucks/coffee beans)

MELROSE AVE (check out the cool shops/coffee houses also spot some stars )

RODEO DRIVE (Look around the extremely posh and expensive shops. Check out the Beverley wiltshire hotel also.

SANTA MONICA (Check the wonderful beach out as well as the great shops and restaurants. Can hire bikes and cycle along the beach to VENICE and check out muscle beach)

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS ( Its not massive so wont spend as much time as you would prob think. A load of shops and restaurants inside the city walk inside universal.

CHINA TOWN AND DOWNTOWN (dont know too much about whats downtown although i had a quick walk through china town but wasn't anything great.

    ENJOY!!
