Threatening behaviour from Sainsbury Staff?

Question

This afternoon I was verbally threatened by staff at the petrol station of Sainsbury. The whole episode was about Nectar points - one of the rough women who worked there threw a receipt at me and then told me "I'd better get out" . Any ideas or suggestions? My lawyer son tells met this is common law assault - is this true?

Report it to Sainburys HQ; hardly sounds bad enough to go to court or involve the police.

Complain to Sainsbury's, go to the papers if you want something done about it.

Yeah your son is right...words such as those, although commonly thrown around, can actually constitute assault.
It's up to you what you want to do. You probably should have reported it to the manager at the time...dont know if you will have much success reporting it now, after the event but its always worth a try

I imagine the police will get round to it once they've finished finding all the murderers and missing kids etc...use lawyer son to make an official complaint to Sainsburys

I'd go with whatever your lawyer son says re: the law. However I personally would write to the CEO of Sainsburys about the behaviour of the staff, being as objective and factual as possible.
I had to make a complaint about Tesco, and after trying managers etc. I finally wrote to the CEO, and got an almost instant reply. Keep your receipt and send a photocopy of it in with your complaint - that will show the time and so they will be able to tell who was working and get these people sacked!

I hate Sainsbury's its a very common shop, I doubt you would be successful in getting the police to pursue. Definitely complain to management and don't shop there again!

I have had a bad experience at Sainsburys and I NEVER shop there now.

Just complain and take your business elsewhere. I'm sure the courts have more important matters pending than some hurt feelings and a paper cut.

I think it may be if that person touched you but I'm no solicitor. If you feel that strongly about it put a formal letter of complaint in to Sainsbury's head office and send it recorded post.

Even if you report it to the manager or supervisor at the time, very little gets done because they're staff.

I once was walking round a supermarket being followed by staff who were shouting things and saying really nasty things to me. Nothing was done about it so I never shop there now.

i realy think that if people don't like facing customers they shouldn't bein the retail industry it's just disgusting.

I can't see that it could be construed as assault as she didn't hit you. It was certainly unacceptable behaviour, and I urge you to report it to Sainsbury's Head Office. Why should this woman get away with behaving like that?

Did you genuinely think she was about to strike you - if so then it is assault regardless of the blow landing or not.

Mind you, we only have your side of events - perhaps from her point of view you were being offensive and obnoxious?
