The political spectrum is often displayed as a line:
l--C---L----D----ML----cen----MC---R--…
C= Communist, L=Liberal, D=Democrat, ML= Moderate Left/Liberal, can= centrist or moderate, MC=Moderate conservative, R=republican, Rgt=Right, F=fascist.
But to think about politics correctly, you should think about it as a circle, with Communism and Fascism not being at extreme ends, but very close to each other.
Fascism is an extremely conservative form of government run by the military in which many personal freedoms are ignored.
Communism is an extremely liberal form of government that, in it's final stages, is supposed to be run by the people. However, the military have to control the gov't in its initial stages and like in fascism, personal freedoms are ignored.
So, Right wing extremists (in this country anyway) believe in following tradition to the tee. Even if that means suspending national progression. This means anti-divorce, anti-homosexuality, anti-big government etc. Left wing extremists believe in complete personal freedoms, big government etc, and often rapid (some conservatives would call it "hasty") change/reform.
