Where shall I go in the UK- two seperate trips?

Question

I have found a good deal on some hotels and have decided to go away for 3 days or so with my fiance. We have also decided that we'd like to take my mum somewhere for her birthday for 2 days.

We have already booked a short break to York in January, if that makes any difference.

I live in London & will be going by coach so please consider travel times etc. when recommending, as we don't want to travel for a whole day there and whole day back just to spend a day or two there (unless there's something very special about that place).

Anyway, the places that are our option for both trips are:

All the places you mentioned seem good but, DON'T go to Woolley Edge - Its a service station! Not much good if your traveling by coach!
Exeter is nice and you could go a few miles further to Exmouth. Some coach operators do all inclusive packages to hotels on the sea front in Exmouth. North of Scotland is really nice but its too far for a couple of days in a coach.

The two I would recommend would be Bath and Oxford. Lots of historical things to see and not too far to travel. Edinburgh is the only other place I would suggest for a short break, but it would take a full day to get their by coach from London.

You have included Glasgow in your list and other Scottish Cities but that will take you AT LEAST 8hours by bus. I live in Glasgow and for a weekend that would be nice.

Liverpool, City of culture 2008, trouble it will take about 4 1/2 hours to get there.A really great place. Also on the way there or back go to Chester.

go to cornwall, the eden project and the beaches are really good
and southampton because i hear its really nice there

I love both Glasgow and Inverness - really different but both real nice.

oxford is very nice and has lots to see,go to portsmouth and get the ferry to the isle of wight
