Arguments FOR and AGAINST eating meat?

does anyone have any arguments for and against eating animals ?

Also...What is the humanitarian view Eg evolutional argument of eating meat ?

Pro - meat contains various vitamins etc that you need (i know there are other ways of getting these)

Cons - where did that meat come from? i mean given the choice would you rather eat chicken (just an example) that has been raised/bred in open spaces (eg fields) and experienced a better quality of life in general or chicken that has been raised/bred in a squalid (not too sure if thats the word) conditions (i.e 100s of them in a shed) hardly seeing daylight and the general conditions in this given shed been summed up as S*** and have had a poor quality life

There was a documentary on a while ago about the subject in my 'con' (eg free range / battery farm....) ((forgot what it was called)) but this documentary changed my views on meat altogether, cos before i had taken no interest in where the meat came from, and after the documentary i now only buy free range meat

Pro: We are omnivores, meaning that we evolved to eat everything, meat and veggies and grains. We and our ancestors have been eating meat for literally millions of years. Meat has a high nutrient density so we don't need to eat as much. It has complete protein, which no single vegetable has. Plus we like it, it tastes good to us.

Anti: Vegetarians can be healthier if they eat wisely. Vegetables have less fat, no saturated fat, so heart disease is less likely. No single veggie has complete protein (all the necessary amino acids) but there are combinations with all of them, and every indigenous culture eats some combination of a legume and a grain so they get what they need (like rice and beans, or succotash, rice and corn). Growing veggies is less taxing on the earth, more economical in terms of agriculture--it takes ten pounds of corn or soybeans to make one pound of beef, and we would be better off eating the soybeans. Plus there is the argument that raising animals for food is cruel to the animals, especially in the ways they are treated these days.

Vegetatarians actually live quite a huge percentage longer than meat eaters do but that is bcause of a variaty of factors

too much red meat and u can get CVD and die earlier
but red meat also has loads of essential fats and iron etc in it

but you can get those from fish and veg

if you do sports, i mean real sports like mma, football, basketball or bodybuilding, you must eat meat. then again, you do not have to be a sportsman/woman. if you live in cold country, you also have to eat meat, try to eat grass all year long in norway for example.

Well people say that it's inhumane, because of how the animals are treated before they're killed.
But, if we didn't eat them then they wouldn't be bred, so eat meat, don't eat meat, either way you're killing the animals.

Firstly, we get many nutrients from meat such as proteins, essential acids and some iron and vitamin B 12. A meat based high protein diet is good for you. Even vegetarians are realizing they need meat in their diet.
