Need advice! Planning trip to Australia!?

I am planning to go to Brisbane in 2011 with some friends! Only 5 - 7 days though as we would only be 18 and won;t be getting a lot of money. Australia is by the Southern Hemisphere right? Brisbane is North of Australia, well it's not exactly at the bottom. I have been told that the North of Australia is quite warm during the winter. I will be going when it is Summer in the UK but winter in Australia. Is it worth going? If it is does anyone know the cheapest places to stay at ( we wont be on this trip to stay in the hotel, so just a cheap one to sleep in). Cheap attractions, well we all want to go to the Great Barrier Reef, swim in the Indian Ocean, and see the wonderful wildlife, not just the plants but the animal(kangaroos, sea turtles, koala bears etc) Just a little help to plan it all and a good estimate price so we know how much to save up for! Thanks x

Brisbane is on the central East Coast of Australia and not North of Australia.

You need to go to Western Australia to swim in the Indian Ocean as the ocean near Brisbane is the Pacific. You should really fly into Cairns as the Great Barrier Reef is just off Cairns.

Don't call a Koala a bear in Australia as you will be told they are not a bear but a marsupial.

I was there in their winter time and it was really nice weather, just like summer in Britain and Ireland. It may be a bit chilly at night but just take a few long sleeved tops and you will be fine.

Perhaps you should do a little more research yourself. This site should have all the info you need to plan your trip as it is the official tourism site.

Not being funny but you cant experience australia in 5-7 days!

you need to go for at least 3 weeks to full experience it!

Brisbane is half way up the east coast on the Pacific Ocean side of Australia so you won't be able to swim in the Indian Ocean if you come to Brisbane(check out the first link). Brisbane in winter is not to bad it gets down to about 6 Degrees Celsius in the morning but the days are usually very comfortable. The second link will give you some ideas about where to stay and see the Great Barrier Reef from. The third link is a good source of information about Queensland with attractions, accommodation and all sorts of interesting stuff. As for how much money you will need that is going to depend on what you want to see and do so i would only be guessing. But i would say don't spend more than a couple of days in Brisbane i live here and if you truly want to see the best of Queensland you need to head north and if you can afford to spend at least two weeks here three or four would be better.

you are wasting your money going for only a week, you will see very little of australia.

australia is very big, england would fit into the state of new south wales 3 times

the reef is in the Pacific ocean, the indian ocean is hundreds of miles from there

better to keep saving and go when you have more money and lots more time,it would be a shame to go all that way ans see so little

you could also do a 12 month working holiday, this allows you to go for up to 1 year and do casual work as you travel the country.Thousands of Brits do this

    Search here for cheap hotels

    http://www.jetsetgotravels.com

It provides search option like near a landmark etc

But beware ... cheap hotels can be trouble some times so check reviews of the hotel you are going to book.

Check the exact location of hotel from google maps.

You would be better coming to australia on a working visa so you can spend more time here. There is plenty of work if your willing to do bar work or wait tables.
If you visit for 5-7 days you will regret not staying longer.
