Help on Port El Kantaoui?

I'm going to Port El Kantaoui in October, but I have a few questions for people that have been Tunisia before.

1. There is 8 of us who would like to take a daytrip to Tunis from PEK without organising it with a rep. Can anyone tell me the best means of transport, length of journey and cost.

2. What are the best places to visit in Tunis/Sousse (Sightseeing, places to eat with lively atmosphere (we're in our early 20's and shopping)

3. We are staying in the Golf Residence Hotel in PEK, can anyone tell me how good is their beach and what are the best public sandy beaches in the area with waterpsorts that we would be allowed to enter.

4. How much would it cost to travel to Hammamet from PEK and what are the best public beaches for watersports in the area.

5. Can a one day excursion in a jeep be made into the Sahara and what is the cost?

I know thats alot of questions to ask but I would be grateful if can someone take out some of their time to help...Thanks

Additional Details

Thanks for the reply. What are the other beaches we can visit in the area that are not exclusive to people from a certain hotel.

1.) I would suggest that you take the train from Sousse Centre Ville to Tunis. The cost is about 7 or 8 TND per person and it will take you around two hours to get there.

2.) Here are links to questions that I answered that talk about a lot of things you can do in each city:

SOUSSE/PEK:

3.) I've never been to this hotel, so I can't speak personally of their beach. There are public beaches near the hotel beaches, however only the hotels offer water sports, and they do it for a price.

4.) You could take a train to Hammamet (about 4-5TND per person). Hammamet & Yassmine Hammamet (same city, but divided into two parts) is popular because it is calm, quiet, yet has a great nightlife and wonderful beaches.

Again though, only hotel beaches offer the water sports (for a price). Most hotels will let you in - some for a fee, some without.

5.) A one day excursion can be done, but it is best to go with a tour if you do not know the area. The tours organize such things as where you will eat, will ensure that you see the things that most people like to see, etc.

6.) Like I said, there are numerous public beaches close by to the hotels. If you rent a car, you can access many others (I personally love the Chott Meriem region - on the outskirts of Sousse). You should be able to ask the reception at your hotel for recommendations.
