Moving to trinidad and tobago!work situation for chefs?

hi me and my wife who is from trini are thinking of moving back there.i haven't been yet but am going in dec to check it out!i am a chef and work in big hotels and michelin hotels and rosette quality hotels().What is the situation out there like for chefs?i.e is the salary's good enough to live on compared to renting a house and food bill etc??do the hotels employ foreign workers or try to stick to locals?as i have herd some country's pay foreign workers less?i don't want to move and have a worse quality of life than the uk!although the salaries in uk are very poor for and spend 70% of wages on the house alone!!

thanks for any input

LORDEE LORD!! If you know anything about Trini...is Dey Love FOOD!! Someone suggested you could even open your own place. I know for certain that there are many hotels and restaurants that utilise chefs. Especially hotels where the caribbean flavour may not always appeal to the foreign tastebuds. I will even enquire for you since I know a number of people in the hospitality industry who are foreigners but live here on the salaries they earn. Some even say its good. It makes me wonder if im doing the wrong thing!

    In Trinidad there are hotels:
Hilton, Hyatt, Courtyard Marriott, Crowne Plaza just to name a few. Hyatt has online application so you should check to see what's available for you. Good luck.

expats and foreign workers are usually paid more than the locals. as Trish said...we trini love food. every day you see a new restuarant or something opening somewhere.

there are quiet a few international hotels in Trinidad & TObago and i know that some of the chefs there are not local. courtyard Marriott, Hyatt, Crown Plaza, Hilton etc have website so you can actually contact them to get further information.

additionally, there are other places, such as Ruby Tuesdays, TGIF, Tamnak Thai, etc etc etc where the food is not local, so that if you can do specialised foods from certain region of the world, then you can have your pick of where you want to work.
