I think i have broken my husbands ps3 please help!?

Question

This morning i was annoyed with the kids as i said there was no ps3 before school so i just turned it off at the switch without giving it another thought.
when my husband finished work the games wont load up and it says hard drive error is there any way this can be fixed i feel really bad it is a 60gb and about a year old. please help me?

Don't worry it is a simple hardware error. You husband still may not be happy that he'll loose all his saved games but IT IS DEFINITELY NOT worth buying a new PS3 over.

If the option is available simply go onto the playstation XMB (the menu system; by pushing the playstation button on the controller pad) then:

System> System Settings>Format Utility>Format Hard Disk>Use All for the PS3 System

If this does not work you shall have to format it outside of the playstation please see the link I have provided in my sources.

thanks he reformatted the hard drive and he lost his game saves but his call of duty 4 online data was saved so he is fine. some very funny answers though!

If the system was installing a game, or data to the hard drive when you switched it off, it may very well have corrupted your HDD. You can reformat and see if this will work. Otherwise you may need to get a new HDD.

i suggest you go to the off licence get him 8 of his favourite beers put on his favourite stockings and suspenders put him on a promise then in the morning all might be forgiven you no what boys are like with there toys

its most likely a corrupted hard drive, just format the hard drive and that will clean the hard drive, then the only thing that you will lose is the data on the hard drive which can include game saves, pictures, internet cache and pornographic content.if he loves you more than his progress in games your ok.

Luckily, you probably just messed up the hard drive and not the other hardware in the system. The hard drive is easily replaced- search for how online, but don't attempt it if you don't understand EXACTLY what to do and which hard drive to replace it with. The hard drive could probably be reformatted and salvaged if you are tech savvy enough.

i would get a new harddrive. but not a new ps3 because he would find out considering that his can play ps2 games while the ones on the market can't so if he pops in a ps2 game and it doesn't work, there will be questions. but i would come clean, it's always better getting these things off your chest.
