I want to go to Heraklion, Crete for hols can anyone tel me what its like?

all the websites ive seen are corporate sites by the tourist industry itself. i want blogs or myspace profiles of people who have really gone, what hotel did u stay in? how much it cost? any good clubs? what about cash-in-hand work out there? any good money to be made?

Take the bus ...or hire a car to "aghios Nicholoas"(please excuse spelling).. or,.just leave the airport in a taxi and ask for "ag nik!) .As for cash in hand work..but be careful...I would head for the large farming community in Ierapetra(south coast)...nice place,at least it was when I worked there in 1985?? I have some of my best memories in this town as a twenty year old backpacker,not forgetting that greece wasn't even in the european community at this time ,so I was working like a mexican ! My memories of Iraklion at the time ....windy,and full of enormous rats(only seen when you sleep at the port waiting for the morning ferry to Athens)

i have been on Holiday with all of the family and it is quite a nice place lots of couples and families

ive been to crete via heraklion airport and stayed in stalis. we did visit heraklion for the day and it seemed like most large greek cities.
it has a nice port with plenty of ferries to greek islands like santorini.
sorry if this isint much help. try googling heraklion there must be some sites by travellers rather than tour operators or try rough guide to crete.
