i would love to recommend you to stay in either these two hotels which are located i Batu Feringghi (a very nice beach area) and yet its not that far from the city itself.. do check out on :

I would suggest Gurney Resort Hotel. It's near Gurney drive, a beach. Where you can have a long walk and enjoy the wind. It's also near town. Many restaurants there. There is also a plaza located near Gurney. It's called "Gurney Plaza".

If you're talking abt next to a beach and near town than consider Sandy Bay Paradise and also Copthorne.
