Things to do in Manchester?

Me and my mum are visiting Manchester on the 7th August and staying overnight in the Manchester Central Travel Lodge. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of things to do or places to visit. We've already done a tour of Old Trafford and we've visited Trafford Centre twice so we dont want to do either of these again. Were generally just looking for nice places to eat and drink out in the evening (no nightclubs) and something interesting to do in the day.

The bodyworlds exhibition is in Manchester until August 17th or so. It's on at the Museum of Science and Industry, and it's pretty interesting. I went to it yesterday...

There are loads of places to eat. I especially like Wagamama. There's one in the PrintWorks (near the Manchester wheel) and I think there's one down Deansgate too.

Urbis is meant to be fairly interesting if you want to know about Manchester's history, or the Lowry in Salford Quays.

You can get a bus from the city centre to curry mile in Rusholme, buses go down Oxford road every like 90 seconds so you wont be waiting around much. On the same road is the Manchester museum so you could do both easily. There are a few gallery's around too, Manchester City by st peters square, Whittworth on Oxford road, Urbis by Manchester Victoria Station, and Platt Costume Gallery (You may have to phone ahead with this one). If you are a film fan you should definitely go to the Imax screen at the Odeon in Printworks. Theres a Hard Rock Cafe around the corner from it aswell.

City Centre has endless cafes for eating, the curry mile in Rusholme, about 2 miles out of city centre is a curry eaters dream, there is a tourist information centre at the town hall that will list "whats on" as there is always some festival or exhibition going on, I would recomment the museum of science and industry they have a lot of really good exhibits like a street in Manchester as it was in victorian days etc

There are theatres galore that get some great shows. The Bridgewater Hall is brilliant acoustically if there is something on there which you like. There is often something outside city hall - the other week it was some kind of continental food and drink festival. There is the Arndale Centre which had to be rebuilt after an IRA bomb. At the moment, there is a giant wheel to see the sights from. How about walks along some of the numerous canals. And I live the other side of the Pennines! Lol!

It depends what sort of things you like doing. There are loads of museums and galleries around Manchester, and there's a few theatres and concert halls, plenty of parks etc.

As for eating and drinking, you can't really go wrong with The Printworks. There are loads of bars and restaurants under one roof. Castlefield is good for pubs too.

Me and my boyfriend spent 3 days in Manchester last year and it was brilliant. Try the Trafford centre or Manchester town centre for shopping. The curry mile is definatley worth doing too. Canal street is a good place to eat and drink. Loads of really good pubs and restaurants

Try visiting Didsbury by bus. Or take a look around the city, Salford quays and Castleford, the locks etc. Try Chinatown for a meal, it's great and cheap.

Manchester museum has free admission, its on Oxford Street, there is also Heaton Park, Dunham Park and Lyme Park, all on the outskirts of Manchester, and numerous cinemas

If you and your Mum are liberal minded - go and have a drink or two on Canal Street. It's five mins walk from the Portland Street Travellodge and lots of fun!
