Where to stay in Dublin, what areas?

Me and my sister are off to Dublin for 3 nights 4 days at the end of August, and we are trying to book a hotel. However every hotel we look at on the reviews people say it's miles away from the city centre.

We will be going out on the Friday and Saturday night, but only to bars not to clubs. We'd like to go shopping on the Saturday and Sunday day time, and also visit the Guinness Storehouse tour, the Jameson tour thing and Kilmainham Gaol. We would also like to visit Christ Church Cathedral and Dublin Castle, but if they are too far away then we will just leave that.

So, given what we'de like to do on the holiday, which area would you recommend staying in? Someplace with a good public transport system but also not too expensive in taxis for when we get back from a night out! :-) Don't mind spending to get to and from the airport as thats only 2 trips.

North city centre? South city centre? Temple bar area? Argh we don't have a clue! Help!

Thanks!

When looking for a hotel the area code for Dublin will give you the best clue for whats near the city centre and whats not. ie Dublin 1 and 2 is the city centre. (Temple bar is Dublin 2) Dublin 24 is a good 10 miles. Co. Dublin is the outer area of Dublin.

Try Dublin 4 for hotels.Or a hotel thats near me, with great public transport, right by a shopping centre and a great pub is the Clarion by Liffey Valley. It always get great reviews.

Great, we've got a hotel in Dublin 1, so we are close to the centre!! It's a great way to get an idea of where you are in the city! Thanks!
