Playa San Juan is a lovely location away from the hustle and bustle of Alicante town. Sorry but I`ve never been to the hotel itself but San Juan generally is more expensive than the rest of Alicante as the beach is the attraction for most people. In Alicante there are plenty of bars, clubs etc but not really a place that Brits tend to go. (This could be an advantage, depends what you are looking for.) Can¡t see why you would choose this location as it's simply a little far from most things except the beach. Our weather has been a bit iffy but I'm sure you will get enough sun to get a colour.
I live in Benidorm so that is a completely different ball game than San Juan. Pity you are not coming in August, then Playa San Juan will be full of skimpy bikinied Spanish babes just like every other beach here. They all come from Madrid or Barcelona to enjoy our beaches and have a good time.
You will find plenty to do regardless of where you are based, Alicante is a great city.
