Should I remove the flower spike from a Venus fly trap plant or if I let it flower will the plant die?

I have a Venus fly trap plant and it has sent up a flower shoot. If I let it flower will the plant die back once the flowering has finished?

Flowering won't kill the plant if it is healthy, however it will slow the growth of the plant noticeably. Unless you want the seed for planting, it's best to cut off the flower stalk. You can read more about propagating your venus fly trap here:

It sounds like it may be already pretty large on your plant, and if that's the case, it probably won't matter much at this point if you cut it off or not. Normally if you are going to cut it off, you do it when it is less than an inch high. This promotes larger trap growth and also the plant will typically form more growth points if the flower stalk is cut off because more energy is used for growing rather than flowering.

If you do cut it off, you can put the stalk in peat moss or long fibered sphagnum moss and it will grow new little plants.
