Can you use tap or filtered water in a pond that has no pump - lack of rainwater?

With tapwater I found that if you allow
it to enter pond in a fine spray, like rain,
it takes oxygen down with it, a fish fanatic
told me this, no loss of fish so far.

It is full of tadpoles at the moment and I do not want to kill them off - it was intended as purely ornamental. I will do a combination of spraying and leaving. You have heard of a good result.

For topping up it is OK. Remember, tapwater contains no oxygen.

I have used tapwater and caused no ill effects!However!People who make a living out of selling cold water fish have said!it is not to be recommended

Use tap-water by all means, just make sure you add a de-chlorinating chemical to it, as chlorine will kill all the beneficial bacteria in your pond, and you will get an ammonia spike, that will kill your fish.
DON'T use filtered water!

I concede that theodore(?) and jeff (?)are right, just make sure your water is free of chlorine before adding it to your pond.

You didn't mention if fish will be in the pond or are you using the pond as a decoration to your landscape. If its for decoration you can use tap water and put some lily pads inside of it. If its for the fish than call the local vet or pet store and get the proper usage for water. This way you will know the amount of water to put inside of the pond and the safe way to use the chlorined water.

you can use tap water ,but fill a 30 gal trash can and age the water a couple of days to evaporate chlorine and aerate ,add a bubble stone for better result

yes of course you can. Just dribble the water in out from a hose into pond you can leave it over nite.

Use tap water by all means. For the initial fill-up, leave for a few days to let the chlorine evaporate before introducing any fish (a few at a time). I have 35 fish in a smallish pumpless pond with no health probs in all the 8yrs I've had them, and I have no worries about tap water if used only when necessary. Both Jeff and Tholeede give sensible advice . I;m assuming that you want to have fish!!

you can use tap water but you must let it stand for a few days before you introduce your fish you can use chemicals such as pondsafe to speed things up, personally i don't use anything chemical in my pond, when you have filled a new pond with tap water you have to go through the green water stage, to help clear the green water add a couple of barley socks to help take the nitrates out of the water. add a few oxygenating plants too.
