How likely am I to get an upgrade at a disney resort hotel?

I have read a lot of reviews for disneys Animal Kingdom lodge who had booked a standard room and been upraded for free to a savannah room. I am really hoping this will happen to us as I have paid £6700 ($13,500) for this trip in total but really couldnt pay the extra for a savannah room so booked a standard room.
If this doesnt happen when we get there...are there any tricks of the trade known to get me one?
I am a humble greatful person and not pushy or demanding..
Its my sons 10th birthday this year and he will be turning 10 the week we leave... if i tell them that will it work?

I am afraid there is no certain way of getting the upgade but they are offered now and then. If you are doing something special like a honeymoon there is more of a chance.

Also of course if their is a real problem then an upgrade may be offered.

From what you hav said you will be quite busy and I bet you wont spend that much time in the hotel although it is a lovely hotel.

Not sure how many in your party but for an inclusive holiday with dining and park tickets etc does not sound that much to me.

Hope you have a wonderful time. When did you say you are going I am back in June...

Hope that helps

Everyone would like an upgrade, and we all think our trips are special. Do not expect one, but kindly ask when you check in.

That is a shedload of cash! FOUR of us went last year for just under 3 grand, INCUDING all the attraction tickets, flights, accomodation, car hire. I know that is not what you want to hear now BUT, you WILL want to go again, once bitten, so you may want to shop around next time. It's just nice to know what other people pay to keep things into perspective.

You might get an upgrade being with a Birthday Boy, but also bear in mind that with most Park entrance fees you are an adult in as much as you pay adult prices from 10! (Yes, I know another rip off!) You might want to balance this additional cost with a 9th Birthday... ;-) If you can get away without showing a passport as proof of age...

Hope you get what you want and you son has a fantastic time. It will be difficult not to, this is the holiday capital of the world and i doubt that you will spend much time in your room anyway.

Who did you book with - 6 of us went to Florida a year ago and stayed at Disney and it certainly didn't cost that much - they must have seen you coming - you got well ripped off.

I would demand to have Mickey Mouse entertain me for 24 hrs a day for paying that.

    Shop around next time..

Anyway - if they said you can have the upgrade - it's yours.

ADDED: Yes - so did we - 6 of us went - total cost - £3010 - At Disney - with car - and all other passes to SeaWorld - Universal - Discovery Cove (swim with Dolphins). Sorry, but you got punked on the price!!!!

i've been going 2 disney for 20 years now. when i was young b4 school my family and i would go 3 times a year. weve never gotten an upgrade but weve had other wonderful thngs happen. the savannah room is so beautiful! it's so expensive though.. we stayed there 2 nights outa our vacation b/c we just couldnt afford it the whole time. My suggestion to u is join the disney vacation club. This summer were stayin at anaimal kingdom the whole 10 days in a savanah room b/c they have vacation club rooms. I really suggest you get the vacation club. not only can u use it at disney but you can use it all around the world from jamacia europe all over the US africia australia etcccccccc. everywhere!!! and the beneifits are greaaattt. so you'll get most of what you got and more for less than 13500 and can use the vacation club everywhere! hope that helped.

We live if the great sunshine state so we have been to Disney about 25 times (twice a year for 3 days each for 12 years).

We have only been upgraded once. We were standing in line waiting to check in and I struck up a conversation with the "host"or "greeter" at the hotel. He then told us we could go over to the concierge desk to check in. They told us at that time that we were selected for an upgrade.

So, if you see a person lingering around the check in desk, spike up a conversation and be as friendly as possible. I am not saying it will guarantee an upgrade but it will not hurt to try.

Also, you will love Animal Kingdom Lodge! It is spectacular!
