Where does the term "(To have) cold feet" come from?

The origin is that it was considered that fear or apprehension caused restiction of blood flow resulting in cold feet.
When a guy was not sure about deepening a relationship he was then said to be getting cold feet.

have you ever held a live chicken?? if you do you'll find its feet are cold, when a person runs of cause there scared to get married, there a chicken,, hence the cold feet ,, running out on a loved one,,

To have cold feet; meaning fear of going foward (metapherically speaking). You can't move if your feet are frozen to the ground.
