small block chevy V8 has the most add ons swap parts.

Find a donor car that has been wrecked in the rear or side

The parts are cheap - and available everywhere.

Small block Chevy. The Holdens in OZ are fitted with them . Forget the Rover lump. It`s only use is as a boat anchor. They need to much work doing to produce any real power and are not the most reliable thing even when standard. I`ve have 5 of them and they all leaked oil and water, and yes I DO know how to look after a motor.

A Monza's already a 3-litre straight 6, so anything smaller than a huge V8, like Holden fitted to the Aussie version, would be a waste of time. I certainly wouldn't bother with the hassle of adapting a Rover V8 to fit, as it's no more powerful.
If all the big Jap sixes are anything to go by, you'd probably be better off sticking a turbo on it, should be good for 400-odd bhp!

Just in case you're in the UK, the Rover V8 as fitted to everything from the old Range Rover to the TVR etc, and just about everything that needs 'muscle'.

A doddle to work on, fits almost everything and with every conceivable mod available to make it tow your house or outrun a Porche 911

But don't let that put you off :o)

If you're in the UK..I'd go with "Ring's" answer....I've seen this done with the donor car being a Rover SDI Twin Turbo.
The Rover was in a rear-ender.....but when the engine was put in the Monza you could've raced the space shuttle to orbit!
I guess the standard V8 from one of these would be quite quick too.
I've seen the same thing done with the vauxhall badged car too.

Bit of advice....you'll need the Rover radiator and the suspension turrets strengthening.
But I can't remember if the bulkhead(firewall) had to be altered to fit the 5 speed manual gearbox.
