Some Advice on Ghana needed please?

Question

Myself and my partner are off to Ghana, staying in Accra, in November for 3 weeks.
can anyone please advise me on what currency it is best to take.
Is it better to change £ up here first and take $ or not.
I heard some where that changing £ into the Nigerian currency and taking that was best, is this true ?
Also, can any one tell me what the situation is like with the current power cuts, does it affect all the hotels and Bars etc or do they generally have there own generators.

Bring GBP.
Any bank and major currency trader will accept cash GBP and convert to local currency.

Converting to USD will merely double your transaction costs.

Do not change to Naira. Even if you could get Naira in UK, the exchange rate for Naira (both in UK and in Ghana) will not be favorable.

Keep the pound sterling....
As far as I know, there isnt much places in Ghana to exchange the Naira(nigerian currency).....
The hotels and bars run on their own generators, and actually the power cuts going to stopped ending of the month.

1.Don't worry about powercuts in the hotels, they hardly ever occur

2.It hardly makes a difference changing it into $ or Nigerian currency

3.Have a nice holiday

Take Pound or $ , dont change to Nigerian , the money you have left you can just take back. Visa works better than Mastercard in most places.

Hi,

I live in Ghana, and can tell you that hard currency, and using big bills, will give you the best exchange rate.

As for the lights off, it has gotten better now that we're in the midst of the rainy season, and lights off is generally only during the night. It does follow a fixed schedule as well. Most of the big hotels and their restaurants have got generators, as will bigger restaurants. Smaller chop bars and such won't but likely you'd be eating outside anyways.
