It's a fad, a passing fancy. I wouldn't doubt that some celebrity somewhere wore a strapless dress and now everyone whats the same thing. Ten years ago it was sleeveless sheath dresses in silk satin, twenty years ago it was those horrendous puffy sleeves, gobs of lace and those dangly silk flowers. While most bride-zillas pay lip service to buying the gown they've dreamed about since childhood, most end up with whatever the fad gown is at the moment. It's amazing how many times refined good taste goes out the door and excess comes in to take its place when women go looking for a wedding dress. In my business I have a rule and I stick to it: NO wedding gowns, No Exceptions! It's not worth it.

- A really sensible answer - women end up buying what's available, whether it suits them or not. Strapless wedding dresses make most women look like weight-lifters.
