In Islam, is everything that happens thought to be God's will?

Or are there any exceptions? For example, is it God's will for America to attack Muslim countries and kill lots of believers? If so, why would He want this? If God controls absolutely everything doesn't this mean there is no point in humans doing anything for themselves, because it's all mapped out no matter what we do? PS. I'm not a Muslim, but I'm asking this question seriously and I'd like to keep the tone civil. Any bigoted Islamophobic comments, or any jihadi rants, will be reported as abuse.

Islam is a very peacefull religion. It teaches people only to do good things. Yes we do believe that everything happens upon God's will but when something bad happens we believe that maybe God has a reason behind it because whatever HE does, HE does it for the good.

Islam acknowledges the concept of free will. That's why God had created heaven and hell... because we have the choice between doing the right and comitting the wrong.

The Quran is sent to mankind as a guidance, but it is the human who chooses to follow it or not.

Obviously, if God controlled everything... then 'everything' would be God's fault, right?

No. Man is fully responsible for his own actions. That is why there is the final judgement where we are held accountable for our own actions.

Islam's teachings are meant to lead Muslim to a better way of life. In no way does it advocate terrorism.

The biggest jihad is the jihad against yourself. To control your own desires and anger.

    Why bother to ask?
Intelligent people know that the bible and it`s god is nothing more than the only reason ignorant and uninformed people of thousands of years ago had to explain why certain unexplainable things happened.
If no explanation, then it must have been a magical god.

Allah has given us brain to use..not to leave it unused...even a leaf does not fall without his knowledge......even the winds don't blow without his wish.....
in the case of humans..Allah has given us the power to distinguish right from wrong....hasn't he given us....
seek right ...denounce what is wrong...

if you are gonna hit me...do i blame god for what happened..absolutely not...

i walk in the middle of the road, get hit by a car ,do i blame god for that....no.. he punishes me for not using my brain and being stupid...

Some events do have God's desire..and only time can give answer's to such incidents....

    Think...Think.....this is what Islam says.......

'Islam' means to submit to the will of God. It does NOT in any way mean 'blow things up and kill innocent people'. Islam itself is a very peaceful religion and those who follow it correctly are peaceful Muslims. The terorists who kill in the name of Islam are NOT true Muslims, they are murderers. It is not right for any person to blame God for all the bad things happening in the world. Every person was born with a free will of their own. It is up to each individual to choose good from bad, right from wrong. Any bad deed that a person does is of their OWN choice, NOT because God willed it to happen.

Muslims beleive that mankind has free choice he can do what he wants but overall everything is controlled by God.

The only way I can explain it is...for example think about a video game, Mario World. Mario can jump collect a Mushroom or Star, the choice belongs to the controller, but the gaming system and software is controlling everything. You can't do anymore, you can only take the choices infront of you.

So there is a major difference between freewill and free choice.

When one chooses to not be accountable for his promise he just made, one might say, "En Sha Allah, En Sha Allah" (God willing.) This makes it so that if the person didn't get around to it, it was God's will.

Imagine yourself at a crossroads. You have 4 different roads as options and only one to choose. God knows what will happen in each case, but it's you who choose the path. That's the way I understand it at least.

there is a point of humans doing things because we have free will to make our own choices & decisions, but God already knows what choices we are going to make.

I'll tell you a fine story.. Once.. The pharaohs were the greatest nation on Earth, they ruled, were magnificent in science, chemistry, and many many sciences... The Pyramids, Sphinx, Mummifications are a great witness...

The Pharaohs started to disbelieve in God, let me tell you that ancient Egypt used to believe in one Almighty God Called "Amun"... When they abandoned that, started to be Tyrants and abuse the weak, God Sent the ROMAN CHRISTIAN EMPIRE.. An Empire that belived in one God.. treated people well, and abolished slavery.

After a while, the Roman Empire got crazy, burnt Christians, enforced slavery, and the people suffered great agony and distress.. That was when Muslims came.. People with the word of God, love each other, abolished slavery, and the like, The Roman Empire was destroyed by Omar ibn Al Khattab, and Muslims Ruled. Peace Love and Happiness...

    But Suddenly, many Muslims changed...

Terrorism, Slavery, bad actions, Maltreatment for women, hate and racism, so the circle began to move again.. It is endless...

Yes. Everything happens from God's will. But, sometimes human challenges God's will and do something against the will. Although God still fulfil their wishes but, they must be prepared to face the consequence of their action. Only in some cases, God will not fulfil the wishes of mankind to challenge her will. Example if God want someone to have a fall at that moment, no one could do anything to prevent him from falling, unless God's will. Otherwise, no matter what U do to safe the person, if God wants him to fall, he will still fell.

Interesting comment. Insh Allah is the most often repeated phrase I have heard in the Middle East (if Allah wills).
Usually it is said without thought of the consequences. I remember in one place we lost an order and everyone was moaning about it. I said well it obviously was not Allah's will we got the order as you people kept on saying we will get the order, Insh Allah, Well if he didn't will it why are you all so upset? This seemed to strike them as an entirely new idea. But these were just normal businessmen. Your question is profound and has implications for the Christians who put DV (deo Volente - God willing) when a notice for a church fete or BBQ is published in their bulletins. Sometimes it appears to be added by habit and other times as a type of good luck talisman ""we better say God willing or He might feel we are not being respectful "". It is very hard to accept suffering to be part of God's will but then you will have to get into the theological concepts of the different types of will being discussed. His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven, as the prayer goes. We as individuals with free will (to a degree) are instruments of God's peace and will. If however our understanding of God is not the same as the true God then perhaps this is why we end up with German Nazis wearing belts with Gott Mit Uns on them.

God has given us a brain to think and make our decisions. he has shown us two ways - the right one and the wrong one - and has left it up to us to choose. For example - Adam and Eve ate the fruit because they were tempted by Satan. God didn't intend for them to eat the fruit but that was a decision they made.

Some Muslims like to think that everything that happens is a will of God..that is not true. Yes, God controls everything and only He knows the future but he has given us free will and has told us to make our decisions. When we make a good decision we take the credit, when we make a bad decision we say it was God's will....NO..that's not right, we need to take the blame for every wrong decision as well.

the fact is the supreme owner of everything is ALLAH. but he said himself that he gave us the power to choose the right or wrong way and we need to chose it ourselves. But he knows best, he knows what we are going to choose. But when we say inshallah, we mean that may allah help us do it in his way. Like when we say we'll go there inshallah, we say that may Allah make us go there. If you translate it into arabic, it sounds like ``may allah will so``, but the explanation is different, just what i mentioned before.
All the people, who talk against Islam, they don't undestand what's being said in the Quran. It says something and also explanates it furher. if u dont read the explanation, they u will get some wrong idea.
that's why lots of people get quran all wrong, by not understanding the explanation just like Muhammadlustrophet, the person who answered the qstn at first.
May allah give him the power to understand that what wrong things he's doing.

I believe, yes. Maybe of the some unexplaination reason. I don't know why He, The God wants this happens, so sad to hear the news too. Of course it's all mapped out no matter we do but in Islam, I was told that the faith can be change if we wish/pray sincerely deep to God and do what is right/wise to do to make the change happens. I believe God can give a good consideration to our wish/pray to him, isn't it?!
