Hay Fever - Any suggestions for stopping runny nose?

Question

I suffer from pretty bad hay fever. I'm currently on a form of medication that seems to work - my throat, eyes and head are fine, but I'm suffering from an almost constant runny nose. I took a cold/flu medice which dried it out, but I'm not sure I want to rely on this every day. Any suggestions (other than blowing it constantly)?

I assume you have tried at least one antihistamine. Mizollen has a slightly higher chance of relieving this symptom, but overall only about 50% of hay fever sufferers get relief of all symptoms on antihistmines alone.

Your next step would be to use a steroid nasal spry every day, perhaps in conjunction with your antihistamine. Beconase is available over the counter, however it is not very potent and the pack is smaller than the prescription pack. You would probably be better with one of the newer more potent drugs like Nasonex, which is prescription only.

With Flonase and Allegra, I sail through my allergy season, except on really bad days. I've got the dripping nose to stop dripping almost all the time.

Doctors recommend "Sudafed" ....try it ,,,it might work on you ....good luck

chase it !!! rugby tackle it to the ground and then tye it up well > that should stop it running off again!!
all else fails my nan always said to put some vaseline around ur nostrils to stop any irratation and a really good anti-hysthamine like piriton, oh and maybe a nasal spray like beconase... good luck i know how it feels i always spend the summers with swollen itchy eyes and and a stuffed up nose!

First of all, do not use Sudafed. Sudafed is a decongestant and opens up sinus passages and promates drainage. You can try Claritin over the counter, little to no drowsiness and once a day. Benadryl and some others also can help but they can cause lots of drowsiness. There are several products on prescription such as Astelin spray, Zyrtec or Allegra. I would try the Claritin, store brands available, first then see a doctor if this does not help. By the way I am a pharmacist.

You might want to try Flonase which is a nasal spray for allergic rhinitis. Check it out on the internet, and maybe you can get a sample or Rx from the doctor to try it out. My son used it and felt better with it.

Afrin No Drip.. When you first start using it, it will burn a little.. DO NOT use more than they say to use.. You would definitely feel it later. That stuff works like a charm, though!!!

Ask you doctor for Beclometasone 50mcq aq n/spray.... its for allergies that effect the nose, like yours with constant running.... It's very good. You have to take two puffs twice a day....
