To be "deprived" is to be denied something...sleep deprivation for example is being made to go without sleep to the point of detriment. So I would guess "social" deprivation would be being denied a social environment possibly due to government restrictions (as in North Korea for example)...

deprivation: to be deprived of. if this is in geography, then it might have something to do with places far from another, a culture not clearly defined or maybe the presence of a hindrance of sum sort

Being deprived of social interaction, as with the children who are found in the woods. Babies who are socially deprived (this was mostly during the time when babies were put in institutions with little staff)many times died. Behaviorally humans and primates are very similar. If an infant is abandoned another will adopt them. Otherwise they die. Social deprivation is also a term used by those who choose to live in the woods and oftentimes become mentally ill due to the lack of human contact. The Unibomber is one. VietNam vets who had flashbacks found living in the woods safer for others than living on the streets. They too are socially deprived. Kids who go to school with guns often feel socially deprived. There are elderly people with no family who are socially deprived often because no one knows they are there.
