Should I buy my girl a diamond or a moissanite engagement ring?

Unless you mine the Diamond yourself, don't but one.
Their conflict Diamonds and they kill millions of people.
They are tainted with blood.
Sooooo any people buy diamonds everyday and support this innocent bloodshed.
It is not a joke or something to support by buying yet another shiny white ring.

It depends what she likes, and how serious you are.

A diamond is classic - unless she has expressed a dislike for the stone, or refuses to wear classic jewelry, I would go for that.

You should ask a friend of her about what she would like. What you should make sure of, if that it is a special piece that she will enjoy wearing for years, and that can be a symbol of your will to be together forever (so, no fashion/custom stuff...)

There are also other stones - look into sapphires, rubies, emerald - sapphires are quite popular, as blue is the color of faithfulness, Emeralds - green is the color of hope, rubies, red, the color of love... :) or also, opales,pearls can be absolutely beautiful (although pearls are told to be "unlucky" because they look like tear drops). And how about Aiguemarine - beautiful color, beautiful stone.

A reputable jeweler would also be able to assist you in designing a one-of-a-kind ring for your girl, using only what she would prefer.

It would depend on a lot of reasons. How improtant is it for you to have the "real thing"? Is money a factor? Do you want something bigger for the same amount of money? Does she care too much as to what she is going to wear for the rest of her life?
A diamond and moissanite look very similar. Many a jeweler has been fooled till recently when a new tool has been available to tell the difference.
If she does not mind and money is a factor you can get the same look for far less money. A moissanite has just as much, if not more, fire and brilliance than a diamond of the same quality. If you have any questions we will be happy to answer them.

Diamonds may be "a girl's best friend", but if you want to be your girlfriend/fiancee's best friend, pay attention to what she says. The fact that you know that she's interested in a moissanite ring is really sweet, and she'll be really pleased that you remembered something like that about her. An engagement ring is a big deal, so it shouldn't be something that might make her feel guilty or unhappy, and it should be something personal between you two.
