Where to stay in Fort Lauderdale? Area and Hotel?

Question

Young couple in 20s. Looking for nice beach, nice hotel, shopping, dining, bars. Not too interested in partying or anything, just looking for a nice relaxing trip but with lots to do around us.

If you could recommend any hotels that meet the above that would be great. Thanks

We had a week in fort lauderdale about 3 years ago. We stayed right on the sea front -

Fort Laurerdale is only a stones throw from miami and there is loads of crime - we definately noticed a difference when it came to feeling safe etc.We had our hire car broken into and all our belongings stolen whilst we were there.

with this in mind - my choice of hotel would definately depend on whether there was secure parking - check on the hotel website/your travel agent etc.

Whilst we were there we hired roller blades as its great fun to roller blade down the long promonades (everyone does it)

I would also recommend the riverboat cruise which takes you past all the houses of the rich and famous - its a real eye opener.

I like the Double Tree. There is one near Sunrise blvd and one on the beach in downtown Los Olas. Its nice and not overly pricey, a little more than a Holiday Inn. The one on the beach is nice, both are in ft. lauderdale and the one on the beach is downtown so lots of resteraunts, bars, all that.

I just booked a room at the Lago Mar Resort and Club. Check it out. I was very impressed with what I saw.
