How close to a neighbors house can I site a summer house?

My back garden is separated from a nosey neighbors house by a fence and her driveway. Her kitchen overlooks our back garden and we feel like we are being constantly watched.
We have a really good space foe a small summer house in front of the fence. Can I legally put a summer house here.

You don't need planning for a summer house, well what I mean is it depend on the size you are building. It have to be 5 metres away from your house. Under 4 metres high from the top to bottom of building. If you are not blocking the right of light to yours neighbours then they have no right to make problem for you. But it is nice to tell your neighbours what you are going to do. It is best to speak to local council and get a free Planning guide for householders booklet. Section B page 14-15.

You will need to check with your local authority as you may find that you will need either planning permission or a building warrant. They will also tell you the legal requirement for the distance required to site a structure near a fence.

Though I'm sure it is 6 feet away from the fence.

The best thing to do is evict your neighbours and use there house as a Summer house.

If you are in a town or city, you will need building permits. You have to follow regulations. You will have to stay within your property lines and most likely will have to be at least 4 feet inside your own property line.

i would think it likely that you could as it is not a permanent fixture that you would need planning for..the neighbour has no right to gaze over to your house and as long as your not blocking day light from her home i cant see any problem at all......think about it....you can build a six foot wall or grow an hedge so why not a summer house......if you don't get on with the nosey old bat then post a letter of what you intend to do and the size of it and let her threat about it and do all the running around to find out.if she is awkward do it anyway he he

am i getting it right here? isn,t a summer house like a wooden structure ie a shed? some people have answered as though it is a brick like structure where of course you would not be allowed to do it too close to fence/wall and certainly would need planning permission to build anything pemanant

The building contractor should be able to tell you. You need approval fron the local authority by submitting the drawings.

Yes you can absolutely put a summer house, shed or greenhouse anywhere you want in your own back garden. Different rules apply for the front garden though.
