Anyone recommend a good hotel in Tucson area, please?

After a few days in Flagstaff we are driving down to Tucson. Can anyone recommend good hotels - not too luxurious, but a little more than just comfortable. Plus suggestions for good eating and unmissable visits would also be welcome (Two slighty older Scots!)

I would recommend either The Sheraton 5151 E Grant
or The Raddison Suites 6555 E Speedway. Both are nice and are close to major streets. The Sheraton offers a free breakfast daily. The Raddison has a breakfast buffet and a nice louge area also. As far as Restaurants go, I suggest El Charro on Broadway. Excellent Mexican food ! For American fare, I suggest City Grill on Wilmot Rd. Very, Very good !
But, there are many excellent restaurants here. Those 2 are in the area of the hotels I mentioned. Don't miss things : The Sonoran Desert Museum, Sabino Canyon for hiking, beautiful scenery, go up to Mt Lemmon, or to Starr Pass. I would love to write more but, am at work and I need to get back to work before I get in trouble. Hope this helps a little. Enjoy your stay !

Heh, I just live here...I don't stay in the hotels. As for things to do, I second the suggestion for the Desert Museum...it really is our star attraction. It's more of a zoo & desert garden than a traditional museum.

As for good eating, I'll also second the suggestion of El Charro, one of the best traditional southwest Mexican eatries. But my favorite is Cafe Poca Cosa, located in downtown. Poca Cosa is unique in Tucson...it is more southern Mexico cuisine with a chalkboard menu that changes at every meal. I've never been disappointed. It's a bit pricey for dinner (~$18 entrees), but the secret is to go there for lunch, when prices are much lower for the same food.

Cafe Terra Cotta is another signature restaurant of Tucson...best classed as noveau southwestern cuisine. Some very interesting flavors...always good. The garlic custard appetizer sounds a bit weird but it is incredibly yummy. They also have patio tables...get a reservation.

P.S. My wife is half a Scot, and I've a wee bit in me.
