From an ethical point of view, should I buy Diet Coca Cola?

Question

I already live as ethically as I can, buying Fair Trade as far as our shopping budget allows, reducing my consumption, etc., and I often wonder if my little Diet Coke habit in fact makes me a bit of a hypocrite?

There are lots of big companies out there who exploit their work force, have their fingers in some dodgy pies, and finance arms production etc. I want to know how ethical the Coca Cola company are, and whether I should stop giving them my money to spend on things I am opposed to...?

I not only deal with Coke at work, I have read alot of the literature and the accusations that have been made. Don't believe everything you read and hear. First it was Nike, then Starbucks and Fair Trade....now "Killer Coke"...alot of its nonsense...

NO...turn on the tap and fill a frosted cup with WATER...it's nature's health drink with no ethical ?'s involved :)

i buy cola but not brand name cola in tesco you can get 12 cans of cola or diet cola for less than 2 pounds and it tasts just as good

Every product you buy and consume is owned by some one that does thing you might think is unethical. But he man that owns the small store that sells the coke is trying to make a living.

You can buy own brand colas that taste just as good. Any company that charges a fortune for a product available at much lower cost elsewhere aint that ethical.

Drinks of the Coca Cola type are nearly all water and sugar or chemical sweeteners, with a small amount of flavourings.

Coco Cola uses extracts from the Cola tree leaves and so I should imagine helps some farmers make a living. Enjoy your drink in good conscience.

It's up to you. The only controversy that I know Coca-Cola has been involved in is nutrition related not work force related.

Coca-Cola was originally concocted as a pain reliever. It was originally sold in a pharmacy as a syrup to be mixed with water. It was only after the pharmacist accidentally used soda water instead of plain water that they found the taste more interesting that it became a refreshing drink.
