Cheap places to visit in London?

Question

People, I am from Brazil and I'm planning to visit England for a week next December 2007. I would like to know about cheap places in terms of tickets, hotels, places to eat... everything!

I am planning to start my "journey" in London, but I don't know any interest cities to visit. Could you help me?

Tickets - a travelcard is around £5 and allows you unlimited travel on the underground at buses in London for one day.
Theatre tickets - go to Leicester Square and find the ticket booth there for late tickets that are often half price or less for that evening/matinee.
Art galleries are mostly free - Tate Britain (Pimlico underground), Tate Modern (modern art), National Gallery (top of Trafalgar Square). You can go in our House of Commons in Parliament Square for free and see the ministers debate. Watch the changing of the Queen's guard at the back of Whitehall. The London Eye is not too expensive (dont know exact price) and worth the ride. Covent Garden and Camden Town are free and just good for a wander round. Trocadero (between Leicester Sq and Picadilly) is good fun for video games, cool shops.
Hotels are expensive - no getting away from that.
Food - cheapest are little sandwich shops all around, try Benjy's for quick lunches (takeaway). Normal stuff all normal price - McDonalds etc, Nandos.

Camden and Greenwich markets are both lots of fun and free ( providing you don't shop!) they are both situated near really lovely parks too - Regents perk and Greenwich park. Enjoy London - it is a beautiful if a little dirty city - personally i adore it!

Forget London! Come to the North of England and meet some real characters,also, there is plenty to see in Manchester & Liverpool, to name two famous cities, the club scene is great, there is always something going on, come and enjoy!

Museums are free! I recommend the British Museum, http://www.british-museum.ac.uk, and the Tate Modern, http://www.tate.org.uk/modern. All good things worth sharing should be free!

My favorite spot to spend the day is the National Gallery of Art in Trafalgar Square and at night -
go to the Covent Garden Opera House. From London you can catch a Bus to Oxford - they leave every twenty minutes. In Oxford you can visit the Ashmolean Museum and have lunch at the Randolph and get drunk in the Morse Bar.
