Im thinking about taking a gap year, any ideas??

i want to take a gap year but i am not sure where i want to go yet. i would like to work while i travel too. All ideas are welcome

Brilliant idea.

For where to go, well, what interests you? Are you interested in trekking moutains, seeing Aztec, Mayan and Inca ruins?
Fancy jungle treks in the Moutains of the Moon in Uganda, climbing Mt Kilamanjaro in Tanzania, Island hopping in the South Pacific?
Or is it the beaches and culture of SE Asia that draws you?

I'd suggest you look on GapYear.Com for idea's and prices.

Personally I'd go to Central & South America for 4 months, then head to Asia for 5 months and spend 3 months coming back overland on the Silk Route through central asia and the middle east.

For work options, how about Operation Raleigh?

Firstly, it is important to tell people what your nationality is. They will be able to give you better advice.
For gap year travel, your best bet is probably voluntary work. If you want to earn money, try Australia. In Asia, there are many opportunities for teaching English, but you would need a work permit first.

Work for about 3 months to save some money and then travel for 6 months. While travelling work for food and board as a volunteer for one of the charities.

Get yaself a round the world air ticket. They vary in price depending on the stops ya want but they generally last 6 months or a year. Forget work permits!! Every country duz cash in hand and you'll find loadsa folk willing to help ya out as they tend to be in a similar situation. The trick is to divide your time up between cheap countries like India, Thailand, etc. for spending cash and rich countries like UK, USA, New Zealand, etc. for earning cash. If you're from the UK/Ireland get in touch with trailfinders. They specialise in travelling and most of the folk ya deal with are travellers so you'll get good advice. Good luck and have fun..

Ya you gotta tell us where your from. If you want to work try getting a tefl course. There fierce handy and you can get work anywhere with them. You could go for the usual places like the states or australia. Or you could go somewhere really unusual like africa or asia or something.
Im taking a gap year next year and am planning to travel South America. But im not going to work...just going to travel my butt off!

Go to India its an amazing country with thing to do for all tastes and its very cheap for everything so you won't have to work unless you fancy some voluntary work.
