What is the point of there being a Vauxhall Meriva AND a Vauxhall Zafira?

In other words, what is the difference between these two cars which look the same, are both made by Vauxhall and seem to fill the same role for whoever buys one?

I think the Zafira is a 7 seater and the Meriva is a 5 seater, what they call a mini people carrier.

The Meriva is smaller. It seats up to 5 people, with a flexible seating in the 2nd row.

The Zafira seats up to 7 in three rows of seats. The 3rd-row seats fold flat into the floor leaving a 5-seater with a large boot. The 2nd-row seats slide, and fold in various ways, but are not as flexible as the 2nd-row seats of the Meriva. With the 2nd-row seat base folded upright, the seat slid right up behind the front seats, and the 3rd-row folded flat it can carry larger loads than the Meriva. It is also available with larger, more powerful engines.
